How gateway-enforced AUP works

When a new agent or user attempts their first call through the membrAIn gateway, the gateway checks whether that user ID has a current policy acknowledgment on file. If not, the first call returns a 403 Policy Acknowledgment Required response with a unique acknowledgment URL. The user visits the URL, reads the policy, and clicks acknowledge — which is logged to the immutable audit chain with their identity, IP, timestamp, and policy version. Subsequent calls are permitted. If the policy is updated to a new version, all users are required to re-acknowledge before their next call is permitted. This gives your legal team documented proof that every person using AI tools understood and accepted the governing policy.
